The TFA was founded in 1985 with a grant from two individuals whose mother died of thyroid cancer. A membership organization, TFA is supported by contributions. Information, support services, and referrals to thyroid specialists are free to all.
The TFA seeks to ensure timely, accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and ongoing support for all individuals with thyroid disease. TFA educates and encourages individuals with thyroid disorders by providing medically accurate information and referrals to thyroid specialists and by working with thyroid-related medical associations to improve the quality and accessibility of thyroid information and education.

Founded in 1923, the American Thyroid Association is a professional society of 900 U.S. and international physicians and scientists who specialize in the research and treatment of thyroid diseases. The Association is dedicated to promoting scientific and public understanding of the biology of the thyroid gland and its disorders, so as to improve methods for prevention, diagnosis, and management. The Association fosters excellence in research, patient care, and education of patients, the public, and the medical and scientific communities. The Association also guides public policy about the prevention and management of thyroid diseases.

American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists
The AACE is a professional medical organization devoted to the enhancement of the practice of clinical endocrinology. The AACE strives to maintain a society of qualified medical, pediatric, reproductive and surgical endocrinologists who coordinate their efforts to further the practice of endocrinology, to utilize the highest standards of practice in endocrinology, providing education for endocrinologists, other physicians and patients to help achieve this goal, to advocate the necessary changes to benefit patients and endocrinologists, and to keep abreast of important aspects of scientific, economic, social and political factors impacting the practice of clinical endocrinology.
